Sacred Geometry ~ Sri Chakra
There are many representations of this beautiful sacred geometry.
I have chosen this powerful symbol of the Sri Chakra as an offering to both the divine feminine and masculine aspects in all of us. To honor and pay homage to both energies ( solar and lunar ) is sacred. Each having its place in the natural rhythm of our lives.
In her form of the devi, Lalitha Tripura Sundari, Lalitha is play! Sundari, means beautiful. It was only recently I learned what my last name meant, Sundaram! This was even more potent for me, a sacred symbol to denote beauty, play in all that we do. Here is a brief description of what this all means.
The Sri Yantra or Shri Chakra is a form of a mystical diagram, known as a yantra. It is the soul diagram representing the Mother, Goddess, or Devi, other wise known as the Supreme Being. She is also popularly referred to as “Adi Shakti”, “Parama Shakti”, “Maha Shakti, or even simply as Shakti. The ancient Hindu Purana text, the Devi Bhagavatam states that Adi Parashakti is the original creator, observer and destroyer of the whole universe.
Adi Shakti takes the concrete form of goddess Lalita Tripura Sundari, who is believed to be the first and original manifested form of the Mother Goddess. Tripura Sundari is known as “the beauty of the three worlds”- (Earth, Atmosphere and Sky (heaven)). She is regarded as the Great Goddess, and the Absolute Truth. She is Tridevi, or Trinity. The Goddess Lakshmi, Goddess Saraswati in her mild form, and Goddess Kali and Durga in her wrathful form. It is said she took various incarnations for upholding Dharma for the Universe.
‘Sundarī means beautiful, specifically a beautiful female. Therefore, her name means ‘Beautiful (Goddess) of the Three Cities’. Etymologically, Lalitha means “She Who Plays”. In the root form, the word “Lalitha” means “spontaneous” from which the meaning “easy or easy to attain” is derived and implicitly extends to “play”. She plays with her devotees just like a mother plays with her child.
The sacred geometry or diagram is formed by 9 interlocking triangles that surround and radiate out from the central bindu point. The four isosceles triangles with the apices upward, representing Shiva or the Masculine, and five isosceles triangles with the apices downward, symbolizing female embodiment Shakti. Thus the Sri Yantra also represents the union of Masculine and Feminine Divine.
Shakti also spelled as Sakthi, meaning, “power” or “empowerment” is the primordial cosmic energy and represents the dynamic forces that are thought to move through the entire universe. Shakti is the concept or personification of divine feminine creative power, sometimes referred to as ‘The Great Divine Mother’ in Hinduism. On the earthly plane, Shakti most actively manifests through female embodiment and creativity/fertility. Hindus believe that Shakti is both responsible for creation and the agent of all change. Shakti is cosmic existence as well as liberation. Shakti embodies the active feminine energy of Shiva and is known as Tripura Sundari.
